Here is a working paper I wrote that looks at ways to increase online engagement between the public and legal professionals using gamification for the purpose of increasing access to justice. This is the last of the research and writing I have produced this year during my Stanford Law Fellowship. I hope someone out there takes this research […] ...READ MORE

Here is my draft working paper on Gamification in Law Firms which looks at the use of gamification in law firms to increase productivity and collaboration, among other benefits. This paper provides a framework for approaching implementation of a gamification strategy within the law firm. For this paper I had fun researching in the fields of psychology, […] ...READ MORE

Balancing Fun with Legal Nuance in Game Design

May 28, 2013 by Stephanie Kimbro 1 Comment

Lawyers are trained to overthink things to the point of taking the fun out of them. I’ve learned I am no exception. This was one of the first obstacles in the process of creating a game for legal services. The game design document, the blueprint for the actual game, is almost finished. We will take this doc to the developers and rest of the team necessary for the next steps in production. Getting the theme nailed down was the first step in the process. The second was to present legal consequences in a way that is humorous and instructs through problem solving. ...READ MORE
Gamification vs Games for Legal Services

Gamification vs Games for Legal Services

May 18, 2013 by Stephanie Kimbro 2 Comments

As I’ve started talking about the game I’m developing, I hear people throw out the phrase “gamification of legal services” to describe my project. That’s actually not what I’m doing and the terminology does make a difference. There is gamification, serious games and simulations and then there are games. The difference really has to do with the design goal. ...READ MORE
